I’ve been thinking a lot about mac ‘n’ cheese. Maybe it’s the grey days that makes me crave such a comfort food. Or maybe it’s the fact that I can’t remember the last time I ate it. For many years now I have tried many different diets. Vegetarian, vegan, ovo-vegetarian, raw, elimination… The list goes on. And all in the name of health.
A while before Christmas, my friend Kris contacted me. He asked if I would be interested in making a leather quiver. A gift for him to give to his girlfriend Loni. I said “of course!”. I have already made a quiver for myself and kept the pattern I had made. So I didn’t think it would be much trouble.
The snow had started falling the previous day and I had been watching the road conditions. It sounded like the highway home was pretty slippery so I decided to put off the journey for one more day. With the extra time, Loni and I thought we should go out for some target practice.
I’ve traveled through the Phoenix, Greenwood area many times and have never pulled over to explore. I fell in love with Greenwood when stopping for a coffee on my way through but have always felt too rushed to really take any time to look around. It’s always, “I need to get where I’m going!” or “I need to get home!” So some friends and myself made a plan to wander about and see what we could find. We packed up the dogs and hopped in their truck.
With winter wrapping it’s icy fist around us, it’s hard to find ways to escape the chill. I didn’t have much planned on this grey day, so I thought I’d throw together some moccasins. You know, to keep my toes warm!
I found out that the Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival was on Nov 21 – 22 this year. I didn’t happen to make it out to see what it was all about that weekend. But then I thought to myself, do the eagles know what weekend it is? Could I not go out another weekend and most likely see them?
It’s been a rather quite week for me so I thought a day of baking with my mom would be a nice way to spend an afternoon. Back in the spring I decided to try making dandelion jelly. I have been using the roots for tea and eating the greens for years but had never thought to try using the flowers to make something delicious. The jelly is great and I plan to make more again next spring! Who knew such a pesky “weed” could be so useful!
When my best friend, Michelle, told me she was heading to Mayne Island for a few days and that I was welcome to join, I was an automatic “Yes!”. I wouldn’t be able to be there for the full time that she and Nikki would, but I could manage a few days. I told them that I would meet them there.
It was my kid sisters 19th birthday. Horses are something that have always had a place in her life. My mother’s pregnant tummy was even nipped by a filly I was working with at that time. She was horse bitten in the womb!
Every year, shortly before Halloween, the boys from Filthmode organize a High Noon Scramble. A gathering for lovers of dirt riding. The guys set up a circuit and many show up, donning their Halloween costumes, to race each other in the sand.
