Girls Getaway to Mayne Island

Us girls relaxing on the beach on Mayne Island  When my best friend, Michelle, told me she was heading to Mayne Island for a few days and that I was welcome to join, I was an automatic “Yes!”. I wouldn’t be able to be there for the full time that she and Nikki would, but I could manage a few days. I told them that I would meet them there.

The weather was dodgy with a chance of rain in the forecast. I packed up the rain gear, along with my things for a couple days and hopped on the bike to head over and meet them. I have probably taken more ferries this year alone then I have in my entire life, but this was the first time I had been the only motorcycle on board. With the rain not making an appearance, I spent the duration of the trip over hanging out on the deck of the ship, enjoying the ocean wind and the view.

Michelle and Nikki met me at the ferry dock so I could follow them back to the cabin. After I got the bike parked and unpacked we all piled into the car to head out and explore. One of my favorite things about this island is all the beauty it possesses. It has a calming air about it and there is something therapeutic about the quiet wandering.

We found places to be silly and returned to the spot where we could get some target practice in with our bows.

Day one was great. I felt exhausted and rejuvenated at the same time. I was grateful to be exactly where I was with the people I had around me.

The next morning was grey but dry. After a delicious breakfast we got out to wander again. The natural beauty of this place can speak for itself, all though the photographs can’t quite do it justice.

While Nikki was resting up with a headache, Michelle and I decided to go check out the ruins of a cabin. The rain finally came but we didn’t really mind.

That evening we all pitched in and prepared a feast. Michelle’s wine stew. While we pigged out, we binge watched marvel movies. An evening well spent.

The ferry leaving the island was an evening one. So we had most of the day to kill. We did some hiking, found some creatures and a cemetery. We were even given a peak at the church and Nikki got to ring the bell. The weather cleared up and the sun shone.

The few days spent here with these amazing gals was memorable and restorative. It’s so comforting to have great people in your life. Makes the grim a little less so. Our ferry finally came and we boarded, heading back to ordinary life.
