Every year, shortly before Halloween, the boys from Filthmode organize a High Noon Scramble. A gathering for lovers of dirt riding. The guys set up a circuit and many show up, donning their Halloween costumes, to race each other in the sand.
A jump was set up for riders to push their limits and show us what they could do!
Sometimes a bit of dirt was eaten. But there was always a friendly hand to help.
The weather was cooperative and the turn out of spectators and competitors in costume was impressive.
Keeping track of laps, categories, and leaders was a challenge. But most were just there to have a good time. Winning didn’t seem to be the first thing on anyone’s mind. There was dirt and smiles everywhere.
The scramble is a day that anyone can come out and enjoy. As couples expand into families, the amount of little ones increasing at the event has only made it that much more entertaining. Never mind the four legged beasts running around in the sand, finding any muck they can, to get grubby in.
Nearing the end of the day, a stranger showed up and began to set up a very impressive looking ramp. He then impressed even further by jumping off the ramp and showing off some tricks. My mind was kind of blown. This guy had some serious skill!
And even Sam was brave enough to give it a try!
I’m pretty sure this was the best scramble I have been to yet. I do not ride dirt bikes. I may in the future but as of today I do not. It’s days like these though, that may convince me to get two wheels off the pavement. But in the mean time, I thoroughly enjoy attending, hanging out and photographing these things. The laughs, the “oh my gods!”, and the “uh oh’s” are all part of this great day that I look forward to, year after year. For now I’ll put the Batgirl costume away, until next year…
